Police Officers To Go For ‘Psychiatric Test’ In Lagos – Find Out Why

The Assistant Inspector-General of Police Abdulmajid Ali, the AIG in charge of Zone 2 Command, Onikan, has ordered that mental test be carried out on policemen in the command, Punch reports.
According to him, this was necessary in order to “avoid any
accidental discharge or extrajudicial killing,” by policemen in the
course of duty.
He also ordered that all personnel of the command undergo a drunkenness test as well.
A statement on Thursday by Zone 2 Command spokesman, Muyiwa Adejobi,
said Ali spoke during a newly introduced educative session for officers
and men of the zonal command at Onikan, Lagos.

Good News! Electricity Supply Gets Massive Boost As Power Generation Shoots up To Record High In Months

Nigerians
are set to witness less moments of blackout in the coming weeks
following improvement in the power generation capacity of the country.
Nigeria has managed to attain electricity generation and supply of
3,686.3MW after several months of blackout occasioned by cut in gas
supply to power plants.
It was gathered that the improvement in power supply is as a result
of high water level at dams, which enabled the three hydro power plants
namely, Jebba (360mw), Shiroro (600mw) and Kanji (440mw) to operate at
optimal capacity.
This, notwithstanding, the country's unutilised power generation due to gas constraint stood at 4,517mw, as at yesterday.
Data from the current daily operational report of the Transmission
Company of Nigeria (TCN), yesterday, showed, Kainji Hydro with 440mw
installed capacity is currently generating 305mw, Jebba with installed
capacity of 360mw is working at full capacity. Shiroro with installed
capacity of 600mw is generating about 560mw.
Other power plants, which have also contributed significantly to the
rise in electricity, are Egbin Steam. With installed capacity of 880mw,
it is contributing 407mw. Sapele is generating at full capacity.
Though, the country's installed capacity stands at 11,165.40mw, the
network operational capability remained 5,500mw while peak generation
ever attained remained 5,500mw as at February 2016.
For instance, the latest Power Generation Statistics from the
National Bureau of Statistics showed that the country's electricity
generation hovered around 1,000mw and 2,000 from June 1 to July 2016.
Despite this moderate improvement in power supply, there were days
generating companies witnessed total or partial system collapse.

Nigerian teenager, Kelechi Iheanacho has penned a two-year contract extension with Manchester City keeping him at the Ethiad stadium till 2021.

everywhere in the world, I do not think that rape cases are handled
properly often times. What makes it worse for us in Nigeria is that in
advanced countries, they have strict laws and most times, the law is
enforced and justice is done. In Nigeria, we have laws in place but are
they enforced as they should be? I don’t think so. But I am happy that
there is a lot more conversation about it. People tend to think that
rape is on the increase but I don’t think so; I think it has always been
a part of our society but you are hearing a lot more about it now
because people are talking about it. That veil of secrecy has been
removed and the more we talk about it, the more we blow the whistle
against the offenders. Eventually I think we would get it right. We need
to put stronger laws in place and enforce them and justice must be
done.
“When you hear about a law that
castrates rapists, you may think it is extreme but when you think of the
ripple effect, the damage that rape causes not just to the victims but
people around them, you might want to rethink. I think that the
punishment should be hard especially for repeat offenders. Maybe if you
are a first time offender, the law might give you room for
rehabilitation but if you are a repeated offender, they should cut off
your manhood.”

Doyle said, “I look this youthful due to

FUNAAB students protest robbery attacks, burn vehicles
Scores of students of Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, Ogun State, went on the rampage, on Thursday, over alleged incessant robbery attacks on school hostels within and outside the campus.Two policemen and a student were injured while several vehicles were burnt during the protest, which lasted for about six hours. A student was allegedly cut with a machete on the head during the protest.
Our correspondent, who visited the scene, saw no fewer than seven vehicles that were set ablaze.
A police post at Osiele and another vehicle parked on the premises, as well as six other vehicles along the Abeokuta-Ibadan Road were set ablaze.
Also, the church, allegedly headed by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Olusola Oyewole, Divine Heights Bible Church, Kotopo, along the Abeokuta-Ibadan Road, was also vandalised by the students while the windshields and wing mirrors of four vehicles on the premises were shattered.
It was learnt that the students’ protest followed an attack by armed robbers on Adejoke Hostel in Isolu community in the early hours of Wednesday. The hostel is some distance away from the school.
It was gathered that the incident infuriated the students who claimed they had been left to their fate by the institution’s management.
The protest, which started as early as 6am, paralysed academic and administrative activities in the institution, causing gridlock along the Abeokuta-Ibadan Road.
Many students and workers of the institution were stranded at different bus stops.
PUNCHNG correspondent learnt that the protest had been peaceful until a police team arrived at the scene. The students allegedly confronted the cops, leading to the riot.
The Chairman, National Association of Nigerian Students, Ogun State chapter, Dotun Opaleye, said Abisoye was responding to treatment at the Federal Medical Centre, Idi Aba, Abeokuta.
The Ogun State acting Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Oyeyemi, said the policemen drafted to the scene of the incident addressed the students for almost three hours.
He said the policemen had to fire tear gas canisters to disperse the protesting students and hoodlums who had joined them, adding that 34 suspects had been arrested.
“We never shot at any student. We only fired tear gas canisters to disperse the hoodlums who had hijacked the peaceful protest. We have arrested 34 suspects, many of them were artisans.
“Nobody was killed. Some were injured. One student and two policemen were injured. The student was hit on his head by a stone thrown by his colleagues. The same students injured the two policemen.”
Tension gripped residents of the school’s environs but the deployment of riot policemen, men of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, and the Special Anti-Robbery Squad, brought the situation under control.
Men of the Ogun State Fire Service were also on the ground to put out the fire in the cars set ablaze by the students.
Meanwhile, the institution’s management has directed that all the students of the institution should embark on a seven-day break to enable it to put in place proper security arrangement for staff and students.
A statement issued by the institution’s Head, Directorate of Public Relations, Mrs. Emi Alawode, said the break was with immediate effect.
The statement read in part, “This is to enable the university to put additional welfare and security arrangements in place in order to further support the initiatives of the federal and state governments, towards the protection of lives and property of citizens, particularly, the members of staff and students of the university.”of lives and properties of its citizens, particularly, members of staff and students of the university.”
